National Wreaths Across America Day Honored in Salem

On December 16, 2023, the community of Salem came together to commemorate National Wreaths Across America Day, a day dedicated to remembering the fallen and honoring those who have served. The event took place at East Hill Cemetery, where volunteers gathered to lay wreaths for fallen heroes.

Among the volunteers were Cheryl Ponce and Chyrel Gregorieff, who have deep military roots in their families. Ponce expressed the significance of participating in this event, saying, "It kind of keeps everybody from my family that's still living with me and has passed in my heart when I lay a wreath on veterans' cemetery graves." Ponce's husband, father, and grandfather are all military veterans, and her son currently serves at Fort Rucker.

The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) extended an invitation to Ponce and Gregorieff to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at East Hill Cemetery. This organization, known for its dedication to preserving American history and promoting patriotism, recognized the importance of honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
